Big Red Bands Advisory Council
The BRB Advisory Council meets twice a year and manages the long-term goals of the bands. The Advisory Council is made up of BRBAA officers, undergraduate band officers, and members of the university administration.
Alumni members are elected for two-year terms by the membership of BRBAA, undergraduate band officers serve for one year, and adminstration officials serve ex officio.
Eva Chiamulera ’97 (sax) is in her first term as the chair of BRBAA and her fourth term on the Advisory Council. Eva also holds a master’s degree in historic preservation from Cornell, and is currently a landscape architect with Austin Ganim Landscape Design in Fairfield, Connecticut.
Tom LaFalce ’94 (tuba) is in his first term as BRBAA vice-chair and his third term on the Advisory Council. From 1997 to 2004, Tom was the bands advisor in athletics. Tom now works for Cornell Alumni Affairs and Development and lives in Ithaca with his wife Marisa (Cornell ’96) and children.
Matt Caulfield ’08 is the BRBAA treasurer. Matt is a software engineer for Cisco Systems and lives in Clinton, Massachusetts, with wife Maren.
Rose Fehrmann ’06 (flute) is the BRBAA secretary and is in her second term on the advisory council. Rose lives in Baltimore, Maryland, where she works for an environmental engineering firm.
Lowell Frank ’99 (trumpet) is the BRBAA resource chair, following three terms as BRBAA treasurer. Lowell graduated from Cornell Med (class of ’03) and is now an attending physician in pediatric cardiology at Children’s National Medical Center and assistant professor of pediatrics at George Washington. He lives in Washington, DC, with his wife Sam (Cornell ’96) and son Max (Cornell ’32).
Scott Pesner ’87 (clarinet) is the BRBAA events coordinator and is in his fourth term on the advisory council. Scott resides in Manhattan where he works in entertainment marketing.
John Maltby ’56 (tuba) has served as an at-large member of the Advisory Council since 2001. Reverend Maltby recently retired from his position as pastor of Miller Memorial Presbyterian Church in Monmouth Junction, New Jersey.
Marc Goldman ’90 (trumpet) is an at-large member of the BRBAA, serving for the first time. He currently resides in New York City, where he is the Executive Director of Yeshiva University’s Career Development Center.
Pat Carr ’96 (tuba) is an at-large member of BRBAA, after serving a lengthy term as chair. Pat completed his doctorate at Cornell in 2003 and is now an exploration geologist for Xstrata in Matagami, Québec.
Rich Hovorka ’96 (trombone) is an at-large member of BRBAA serving his first term on the advisory council. After jumping from central New York to southern California to Virginia, Rich is now in Hartford, Connecticut, where he is an optical engineer for Adaptive Optics Associates.
Jen Goforth ’13 (sax) is the BRB head manager. She is a biology major from Shawnee, Kansas, and previously served as uniform chair.
Jessica Reno ’13 (percussion) is the BRB drum major. Jess is a chemistry major from Mars, Pennsylvania.
Nick Lamson ’14 (trumpet) is the BRB treasurer. He plans to major in biological engineering and lives in the middle of a cornfield near Syracuse, New York. Nick is also the equipment chair for the pep band.
Dan Charen ’12 (sax) is the Pep Band manager. Dan is from Warren, New Jersey, and is majoring in biology with an eye on med school.
Steven Albanese ’14 (sax) is the Pep Band treasurer. He is from Wayne, New Jersey, and is another proto-physician majoring in biology. Steve is also a publicity chair for the marching band.
Matt Coats is the bands advisor. Matt is the Assistant Director of Athletics for Operations.
Mira Schifrin is the music advisor. A 2009 graduate of Western Michigan in flute performance, she is currently pursuing graduate studies at the Ithaca College School of Music.
